About Labour Day
Labour Day is observed on May 1st. It is a national holiday that celebrates the social and economic achievements of dedicated workers throughout the country. Today, it is a celebration dedicated specifically for the working class and how far labour laws, equality, and other similar factors have arisen. However public transportations still need to be operated on these following days. Many restaurants and museums still remain open for the public. In addition, several other tourist attraction spots will also need to be opened to the public with some extending the hours of operation due to the large group of people who are off for work.
Activities to be done on Labour Day
One of the most charming parts of Labour Day is honouring the hardworking labour force who are always working for the progress of our nation. Trade unions and other organizations organize parades and demonstrations to campaign for workers’ rights on May 1. People may also use these events to campaign for human rights in general, to demonstrate against racism or highlight current social issues.
Flowers for Labour Days
Families with children in country areas get up early in the morning and go into the woods to pick the flowers. Labour Day is mostly celebrated with red, white, and blue flowers or patriotic plants. People in many areas give bouquets of lily-of-the-valley or dog rose flowers to loved ones. This custom is particularly common in the Western countries, especially in France. It dates back to the Renaissance and King Charles IX who started the custom after receiving a bouquet. Local florists and labour organizations in urban areas sell bouquets of lily of the valley on the street on May 1. There are special regulations that allow people and some organizations to sell these flowers on May 1 without paying tax or complying with retail regulations.
