About Boss’ Day
The history of Boss’ Day started in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, a secretary at the State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois registered “National Boss’ Day” with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. October 16 was chosen as the date for Boss’s Day by Haroski because it was her father’s birthday and during that time she was working for him in the same company. According to Haroski, most young generation employees do not understand the effort, dedication and challenges faced by their employers. Therefore in 1962, the Governor of Illinois, Governor Otto Kerner officially proclaimed Boss’ Day supporting Haroski’s registration.
This special day for Bosses is celebrated in countries such as United States, Canada, Lithuania, and India.
