About St Patrick’s Day
St Patrick’s Day is an annual celebration in remembrance of Ireland’s most well-known patron saints named St Patrick. St Patrick is the descendant of a rich Romano-British family that lives in England around the 4th and 5th centuries. He was kidnapped by Irish raiders when he was sixteen years old and brought back to Ireland to a slave. Six years later, St Patrick managed to make an escape and able to return to his homeland.
Years later, St Patrick becomes a preacher in Ireland until his death on 17 March 461. Hence, Saint Patrick’s Day was established and celebrated each year on 17 March in Northern Ireland, which was also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick. St Patrick’s Day is a national holiday and it is being celebrated in many countries worldwide, which also include the Irish-American community living in the United States.
In November 1995, the Government of Ireland launched the St. Patrick’s Festival with the main purpose of developing a major annual international festival around the national holiday as well as a unique trademark holiday for the Irish people. The inaugural St. Patrick’s Festival was organized on March 17th 1996 for one day and night. Ever since that day, it has grown into a 4-5 day carnival. The festival is a way of reflecting the Irish people talents from all age and background as well as achievements locally and internationally.
St Patrick’s Day Activities
