Beautiful flowers with surprising meanings

A flower is never a simple flower, it carries a strong message to its recipient. Many flowers are linked to love and passion but some of the popular ones actually symbolize negativity, anger, or loss. Before you buy a bouquet, check out the different meanings that we are going to tell you!

Carnation:

If you love to give these ruffly flowers, you have to know that the white one means “sweet and lovely”, the pink one “I will never forget you”. The two-toned version means “I cannot be with you” and yellow ones signify “disdain”.

Sunflower:

Legend has it that when Spanish explorers reached the Americas, they thought sunflowers were made of real gold. Of course, they were wrong, hence the meaning “false riches”.

Daisies are the first level of Girl Scouts so it’s only fitting that they represent innocence and purity. This stems from an old Celtic legend. According to the legend, whenever an infant died, God sprinkled daisies over the earth to cheer the parent up.

Pansy:

Derived from the French word “pensée” this bloom means thoughtfulness and remembrance.

Lavender:

Tricky to spell but with a beautiful meaning, Chrysanthemums generally symbolize longevity, fidelity, joy and optimism. Various colors symbolize other important meanings as well. The red one symbolize love and deep passion, yellow symbolize neglected love or sorrow, white one means loyalty and honesty and violet signifies a wish to get well.

Gift these cheery blooms to someone celebrating a new job, a new home or either a new addition to their family because daffodils symbolize “new beginnings”.

Zinnia:
